"Pitcher Plant" by Pattie Deen is an original oil painting on 30” x 40” canvas with a 1” cradle (depth). Arrives wired and ready to hang.
One of the insect eating plants ranging from the South Carolina bogs to North Carolina mountains. I have always been fascinated by these plants so I painted one set against a background consisting of a weathered piece of wood and a cowrie shell. A cicada is perched on the weathered wood. The wings are from an actual cicada, an insect prevalent in the South which undergoes metamorphosis after years of hibernation underground. They emerge from their hard shells and fly up into the trees to sing after drying their new wings in the sun.
