PURPLE IRIS by PATTIE DEEN

"Purple Iris" is an original oil on 48" x 36" canvas with a 1" cradle (depth).

The purple iris is the Queen of Flowers to me.  They always remind me of the garden scene in the Disney animated movie "Alice in Wonderland"  One of my favorite gardens at my mountain house consisted of large purple iris and tiger lilies which surrounded a large Alice  figure kneeling on the ground with her skirt spread as a rain bath for birds, the White Rabbit consulted his watch to one side, the Mad Hatter held his teacup on the other and the Red Queen looked on with folded arms from the cinnamon fern bed.  This iris was one I picked from that garden, began work on in the spring and finished as the leaves were turning red and yellow on the trees visible from my studio loft.
